SCHOOL DRUGS Release “Modern Medicine” via Indecision Records | Listen “Modern Medicine”

So many great bands out there and yet so little time to discover all of them! School Drugs released Modern Medicine back on September 13, 2019 with Indecision Records. I came across their older album Relative Suffering while reading up on Hell In Mind Records and was instantly sucked in. After a bit of searching I tracked down this new release and had to post about it. Seriously fucking amazing… If you are a fan of 80’s and 90’s hardcore or just a fan of some great traditional punk music then you should follow School Drugs!

Band Bio:
Nestled along the Jersey Shore in the cradle of pharmaceutical country where School Drugs were born, frontman Josh Jurk remembers the first time one of his teachers told his parents he should be medicated, he was 9 years old and in 4th grade, “I remember thinking ‘this is fucked’ and I was pissed”! School Drugs are still pissed and they know exactly how to express it, fast, loud, angry with a cheeky grin, proper fucking punk or as they say with tongue firmly in cheek, “we wanna make hardcore punk again”!

To listen to Josh talk about his influences it is clear he had a proper schooling in Punk and Hardcore, listing Negative Approach, Bad Brains, Poison Idea, as influences along side Weird Al Yankovic and Hong Kong era Jackie Chan can begin to give you a sense as to the depth of his entrenchment in Punk Rock culture. Growing up at the Jersey Shore and steeped in Shore Core witnessing Tear It Up, Forward To Death, and Splitting Headache on the reg was secondary school, where the members of School Drugs witnessed their relatives and peers in action.  Finally taking to their own stage School Drugs have had the honor of opening up for many in the senior class of punk rock the Cro-Mags, Dag Nasty, Adolescents, Agent Orange, 7 Seconds and most recently the debut show of Beach Rats.

Tackling controversial social debates as themes is nothing new in Punk Rock unfortunately many modern day bands seem to have forgotten pushing back against societal norms is one of the pillars of Punk Rock. School Drugs entire being from their name, their tempo, their stage antics, and artwork are all a push back, a reminder up in your face of what Punk is, why Punk is, and how Punk is.  It is important to wipe the slate clean periodically, remember the formula and start again, welcome to the age of School Drugs, we hope you are paying attention.
