16 friends perform an a cappella version of 'Stand By Me' – 4 million views!
The Buzztones are an a cappella group from London that consists of 15 friends (one left) who share their passion for singing together. The group quickly made a name for itself. They regularly appeared on shows like the BBC program The One Show, proving how well their music resonates with audiences. In 2013, they even reached the final of View from The Shard, a competition that attracts a cappella artists from across the UK.
Their cover of Ben E. King's Stand By Me shows exactly why a cappella music fascinates so many people. The song is a prime example of the Buzztones' strengths: powerful harmonies, a voluminous sound and a sense of rhythm.
For me, this is one of those performances that proves that a cappella music can be not only entertaining but also musically impressive.
After their successful debut, the Buzztones performed at one of the most important festivals for new artists: the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Their Edinburgh performance was a huge success. The band sang to a sold-out crows and won over the crowds hearts with their song covers. This appearance left a lasting impact and led to them being invited back to the festival in 2015. In 2018, they won the Moscow Spring A Cappella Competition – another highlight for the group.
The Buzztones are now well established in the a cappella world, winning over fans with their recognizable sound. Their performances are always a hit, such as at the England v Wales World Cup game in 2015, where they performed live. They also had a series of sold-out shows at The Bedford in 2012 and 2013.
But it's not just live performances. With a perfect blend of bass, baritone and tenor voices, the group's 14 members have also made it onto TV and radio. In addition to their regular guest spots on The One Show, they have also been featured on other well-known platforms such as Channel 4 and Capitol FM. I am impressed by how the Buzztones repeatedly manage to impress their fans and expand their influence with creativity and skill.
The Buzztones are very popular among sports fans around the world and perform at some of the most famous events. Highlights of their performances to date include the FA Cup Final, the Aviva Premiership and the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
However, classic a cappella covers are not enough for the group. Instead, they rely on creativity and break with clichés by reinterpreting modern and extraordinary songs – all in the typical Buzztones style. They are able to sing even the most well-known catchy tunes in such a way that they become something completely new.
One example of this is their version of Linkin Park's hits Numb and In the End. With this mash-up, the group not only shows their versatility, but also manages to recreate the emotional depth of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington – all with their own unique touch, of course. For me, it is exactly this willingness to experiment and the courage to try something new that characterizes the Buzztones.
