7 Year Old Shaney Lee does the most adorable “Take Me Home, Country Roads” ever
Seven-year-old Shaney-Lee Pool performed a charming version of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" on The Voice Kids, earning 63 million views online. The Bristol youngster got the audience standing with his sweet, pure rendition of the John Denver hit. Pop star Pixie Lott turned her chair for him, giving him a spot on the UK program.
Country music is a perfect fit for Shaney-Lee, who lives on a farm near Bristol Airport with many animals, including his Shetland pony Bobby Brown, which he rode to the studio.
In his audition interview, Shaney-Lee named country and Western music as his favorite and mentioned seeing Kenny Rogers live two years earlier. Music is part of his daily life: "I listen to music on the radio, at my nan's house and on YouTube."
His parents Shane and Tamara support him fully, with his father noting, "Whenever Shaney-Lee sings it does make you very proud. The places we go, the people we see, they always ask him to sing."
Shaney-Lee knows how to entertain a crowd, getting everyone on their feet immediately. The audience and judges loved his cute post-performance interview too.
For extra cuteness, watch his battle round performance of "ABC" by The Jackson 5 with fellow contestants Lilia Slattery and Jimmy Rey.
The battle round ended Shaney-Lee's journey on the second series of The Voice Kids, where Lilia Slattery (who reached the top six) eliminated him.
Watching him perform shows maturity beyond his years, something his mother noted: "He's certainly got a lot of confidence. More confidence than me for sure. He's definitely an older person in a little man's body."
Before his blind audition, Shaney-Lee had a simple plan: "I'm gonna make sure that number one, smile, number two, dance, number three, hold the microphone and number four, tap my foot."
Given how much his performance delighted fans in the studio and online, his approach clearly worked. The young performer did an excellent job with "Take Me Home, Country Roads," skillfully adjusting the range to suit his voice compared to Denver's original tenor version.
The track became the country musician's first major single, achieving Platinum status in the UK and double Platinum certification in 1971. "Take Me Home, Country Roads" appeared on Denver's fourth album titled "Poems, Prayers & Promises." This song continues to be the deceased artist's most streamed work, with 763 million plays on Spotify - more than three times the number of his second most popular song, "Annie's Song."
