Johnny Manuel captivated audiences in 2017 with his powerful rendition of Whitney Houston's classic ballad, "I Have Nothing" during the 12th season of America's Got Talent. His breathtaking performance ignited thunderous applause from viewers. This wasn't Johnny's first taste of fame. The vocalist from Michigan had entered the professional music scene nearly two decades earlier.

At just 14, Johnny inked a brief contract with Warner Music Group as an R&B performer, serving as an opening act for celebrities like Jay-Z and Destiny's Child, while also joining NSYNC on tour. His first single, "I Got You," remains hidden in YouTube's vast archives.

Unfortunately, Johnny's debut album failed to achieve the anticipated success, prompting Warner to terminate their relationship with the young talent. Johnny stepped away from music to heal from this setback, which occurred during his formative teenage years. However, by 2017, at age 32, Johnny decided to pursue fame again—a bold choice with remarkable results.

Johnny's AGT audition received unanimous approval from judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel, advancing him in the competition. His audition video has accumulated 24 million YouTube views, while his Judge Cuts segment earned a Golden Buzzer from R&B icon Seal. Though Johnny reached the semi-finals, his risky choice to perform an original song called "Blind Faith" didn't fully showcase his vocal abilities.

Despite not reaching the finals, Johnny established himself as a top-tier talent and inspiration within the black LGBTQIA+ community. His career continued with appearances in the 2018 Eurovision Contest as part of Bulgaria's EQUINOX group, and he finished second on The Voice Australia in 2020.

After releasing new music in 2022 and 2023, Johnny's candid interview with Queerty revealed his authentic self—a person who admires Diana Ross and champions queer, black empowerment. Since his AGT debut, Johnny has consistently motivated emerging vocalists.
