Shy Teenage Girl Gives America’s Got Talent Judges The Shock of Their Lives With Astonishing Vocal Performance
When 13-year-old Courtney Hadwin stepped onto the America's Got Talent stage in 2019, the four judges - Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Heidi Klum - expected little from the visibly anxious teenager. "Don't be nervous," Mel B told her, trying to calm her obvious jitters. "I know this is a big stage and there's lots of people here. But you're here for a reason, so go for it and good luck."
Courtney proved she needed no luck at all. The moment she began singing her fiery version of Otis Redding's 'Too Hot To Handle,' the judges stared in amazement. They could not believe such a powerful voice came from a shy young girl. Her self-assurance was remarkable as she moved energetically across the stage like a seasoned performer.
The biggest surprise came after her song when judge Howie Mandel hit his golden buzzer, sending her directly to the quarter-finals. "Oh my gosh, you're not from this era," he said with visible admiration, "you're from a whole different era." Simon Cowell added, "you were this shy little thing when you came out, and then you sing and you're like a lion."
Though Courtney didn't win the competition, she reached the top ten and delivered several stunning performances. Her final act featured an electric version of Tina Turner's 'Nutbush City Limits.' Howie praised her: "You are on fire, you're amazing, you're a superstar."
With her distinct dance style and unique vocal quality, Courtney was clearly born for the stage. Since the show, she has built a successful career as a performer. She has released five original singles, with a debut album and American tour planned. Fans can expect more from this exceptional talent soon.
