Dan Vasc's version of Amazing Grace might be exactly what you like if you appreciate Disturbed's cover of Sound of Silence. Both songs are deeply rooted in folk music tradition and are characterized by anthemic, melodic vibes. Although Amazing Grace is significantly older – it was completed in 1779 – the songs are linked by their timeless character and their significance as classics.
Millions of clicks for Dan Vasc's 'Amazing Grace'
Dan Vasc has proven with his interpretation of Amazing Grace how multifaceted and powerful his voice is, similar to what Disturbed did with Sound of Silence. Both songs use intense, controlled rock vocals and build to an orchestral climax that is guaranteed to give you goosebumps. Reacting to Vasc's version in a YouTube video, Seb Duran sums it up: “It reminds me of how I first heard Disturbed's Sound of Silence – that strong voice moving from baritone to tenor and finishing with a rough rock sound. It's incredible.”
But Amazing Grace is not Vasc's only success. His most popular YouTube video to date is a cover of Toss A Coin To Your Witcher, the viral song from the Netflix series The Witcher. The song, featured in the second episode, was sung by the bard Jaskier and caused a viral hype on YouTube. Vasc's version was the most popular and has now been viewed over 27 million times. These numbers clearly show that Vasc not only has talent, but also a sense for interpreting iconic songs in his very own rock style – a real hit maker in the YouTube universe.
From business student to YouTube star
Known as Dan Vasc, the Brazilian singer Daniel Vasconcelos has had an unusual entry into the music world. Born in 1989, he first decided to study economics after his military service. But after just two years, he realized that this wasn't the right career path for him. “It feels like I had no choice,” Vasc explains today. “People tell me I was brave, but for me there was only one option: music.” And so, from 2007, he devoted himself entirely to his passion.
Dan began to educate himself musically. He took courses in contemporary and classical singing, music theory, composition and piano. This laid the foundation for him to teach singing lessons himself. But that was just the beginning.
Vasc joined the metal band Fearless, which attracted attention in 2013 with their release of their EP Ancient Wisdom. The success of this release led producer Juan Aneiros to take notice of Vasc and invite him to participate in the concept album The Omens Of Death. This album, which featured actor Christopher Lee, offered Vasc the opportunity to voice the character Oliver.
However, despite this success, the big breakthrough with his band failed to happen. They recorded an album, but were unable to find a record deal. In October 2017, frustrated by his lack of success in the music industry and struggling with the pain of losing his father to cancer, Dan decided to change direction. To do so, he started building an following on YouTube. Two years later, his fanbase had grown to such an extent that he had the courage to do it independently and release the album Chronicles of Ancient Wisdom by his band Fearless without a label.
In 2021, he achieved another remarkable success: All Hail Friday Night Tights, the title track for the weekly internet program Friday Night Tights, once again demonstrated Vasc's feel for powerful compositions. The track, a tribute to the metal-inspired energy of 1980s cartoons, reached number 1 on the Amazon All Styles Charts in the US and UK within three days.
Dan Vasc has now established himself as a big name on YouTube. With 18 videos that have received over a million views and 10 songs that have received over 2 million clicks, it is clear that his decision to take control of his career was the right one. His story is proof that talent and determination, coupled with hard work, can lead to success even without a major record deal.
